Artist Statement:

I primarily work with watercolor on
canvas but my intension is never to
follow the traditional path of watercolor. I
am always experimenting, using the
fluidity of my medium to my advantage.
Sometimes I will use printing techniques
to achieve patterns, sometimes spraying
and rubbing and creating shadows by
taking the paint off as quickly as I have
applied it. It’s an exciting process
because the outcome is always a total
surprise and that is what I look for, the
happy accident, when the very wet paint
has a mind of its own and directs my next
step.

Lately I have been fascinated with
painting on wood panels. The texture of
the wood, the smooth and hard surface
ignites my imagination and I find myself
thinking differently. I have started using
collage and experimenting with transfers
in my paintings.

No matter what my medium my theme is
always consistent. I want to create a
different world, a place of imagination and
magic, a wonderland.

Q: When did you start doing art?

Most of my life, but most seriously about 7 years ago.

Q: What inspired your works?

I grew up in NYC and was surrounded by all the great masters. They influenced me in that they made me love
art and painting, especially. As far as style, no. I love the impressionists and the pre-rafaelites and yet I have
no desire, there is nothing in me that could be expressed as they expressed themselves. That is them and I
have to find my own way. No one needs another impressionist painter in the twenty first century.

Q: Did you ever feel like giving up?

Who doesn't? But when you see how miserable you are when you are not living the life you were born to live,
you recover quickly and start working again.

Q: Any upcoming exhibition?

There is great one currently at Gallery 311 in Raleigh. A group show with a group of awesome abstract
painters called The ChromaZones. I have 3 paintings in that show.

I will have a solo show at Local Color Gallery in Raleigh. The show will open May 7th, 2010 and run till the
end of the month.

Q: What would you call your style?

If I had to call it something, it would be contemporary abstract.

Q: What's the best thing about being an artist?

Being able to have a  profession where your honesty and authenticity is what flues success.
There are not too many professions out there than you can say that about.
